20 years of Biodiversity Convention in Belgium

The year 2016 is the 20 years anniversary of the Belgian ratification of the Convention on Biological Diversity.

A collective celebration of this anniversary highlights the importance of the implementation of the Convention by the actors in Belgium.

The Belgian National Focal Point and the federal and regional entities launched the project "1001 for biodiversity", composed of three complimentary actions :

1) 1001 ideas - Save biodiversity: a competition of ideas open to all. It ran from September 2015 until April 2016 and showcased more than 1.000 people creating and developing new ideas for the preservation of biodiversity. Read more about the contest and the winning ideas in French and Dutch.

2) 1001 decisions - Save biodiversity: a conference and debate with involvement of young politicians, stakeholders, administrations and the five competent ministers of environment was held on 20 May 2016 in the Museum of Natural Sciences. 3) 1001 actions - Save biodiversity: enrichment and modernization of the public awareness tool "366 tips for biodiversity". It resulted in a French and Dutch idea machine for biodiversity.
