Official contact point

The National Focal Point is the official Belgian contact point for the Convention on Biological Diversity, the secretariat of which is hosted in Montréal, Canada.

The focal point liaises between the Convention and its secretariat, and the relevant authorities in Belgium.

We transfer decisions by the Conference of the Parties to the Convention to competent authorities in our country (the federal and federated authorities) and we disseminate this and other information to relevant stakeholder organisations and the public at large.

Conversely, we support consultations to reach common Belgian and European positions on biodiversity-related issues, we report on biodiversity and policy in Belgium to the Convention, and we nominate Belgian experts to international meetings.
