Agronomist Gyrhaiss Kapepula Kasembele (UNILU) wins an award at the 47th conference of the PARSA

Last September, agronomist Gyrhaiss Kapepula Kasembele from the Université de Lubumbashi won the award for best senior student poster presentation at the 47^th conference of the Parasitological Society of Southern Africa (PARSA), in South Africa, for the following poster: 

Kasembele G.K., Abwe E., Chocha A. M., Snoeks J. & Vanhove M.P.M. (2018) First record of monogenean fish parasites in the upper Lufira basin (DR Congo): dactylogyrids and gyrodactylids infecting Oreochromis macrochir (Boulenger, 1912) and Coptodon rendalli (Boulenger, 1896) (Teleostei: Cichlidae).  

This research was supported by the 2014-2016 VLIR-UOS South Initiative "Renforcement des capacités locales pour une meilleure évaluation biologique des impacts miniers au Katanga (RD Congo) sur les poissons et leurs milieux aquatiques", with as promoters the professors Auguste Chocha Manda (Université de Lubumbashi) and Jos Snoeks (co-promoter: Filip Volckaert) (KU Leuven). Former CEBioS scientist prof. Maarten Vanhove (currently at Hasselt University) was involved in this project and had the pleasure to welcome Gyrhaiss for two internships in Belgium to work on this research for his master's dissertation.
