News CEBioS participated in the 1st WABES expert meeting

The first regional workshop of the WABES project was held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on November 28th-30th 2017.

The WABES project aims at supporting West African countries (ECOWAS members States) to fulfill a number of requirements related to the four major IPBES objectives (Assessment, Policy support tools, capacity Building and Knowledge Generation).

The project is organized around four main components:

  • Annual regional workshops with West African Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services experts;
  • A web-based regional information platform to link experts and to channel information;
  • A Master program on biodiversity and ecosystem services
  • An implementing of a monitoring concept and “lessons learned” as role model for related initiatives.

The overall objective of the workshop was to facilitate networking activities among West African Experts in regard to better support the implementation of the Work Program of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), in particular its thematic, methodological and regional/global assessment.

This workshop was also the occasion to officially launch the project activities in the region, in particular the MSc program.

A total of 78 participants from 20 different countries participated in the workshop.

M-L Susini Ondafe from CEBioS participated in the workshop. She presented the capacity-building activities of the IPBES, as a member of the task-force.
