Summerschool on aquatic biology in Morocco

The summerschool was entitled "Building an African network for sustainable management of aquatic biological resources supported by genetics and parasitology". Over 20 students from seven African countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, the D.R.Congo, Ivory Coast, Madagascar and Morocco) participated in this training and networking activity on parasitology, ichthyology and sustainable management of aquatic biodiversity. Funding came primarily from a VLIR-UOS Short Training Initiative with substantial co-funding from the Moroccan host university. Local promoter was Ouafae Berrada-Rkhami with Abdelaziz Benhoussa as co-promoter; the organising institutes on the Belgian side were the University of Leuven (promoter Filip Volckaert) and the RBINS, represented by co-promoter Maarten Vanhove from CEBioS. Other co-organisers and experts involved, included senior scientists from the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (Antoine Pariselle), the Royal Museum for Central Africa (Tine Huyse), the College of Charleston (Isaure de Buron-Connors), the Université de Yaoundé I (Charles Bilong Bilong), the Université de Ngaoundéré (Arnold Bitja Nyom) and the Université Félix Houphouet-Boigny d’Abidjan (Valentin N'Douba).
