DR Congo economic mission in Belgium took place in Belgium from 19 to 20 June 2017

An economic mission organised by Mr. Jerôme Roux (Wallonia.be, Invest-Export.Brussels, Flanders Invest & trade, Représentation économique et commerciale, c/o Ambassade de Belgique en RDC) visited Belgium in the week of June 19th, 2017, in order to meet conservation and business partners about future developments in sustainable tourism and conservation in DR Congo. The RBINS, considered as one of the co-organisers of the series of events, had prepared for a guided tour of the museum for the participants on June 20th, an event which has ultimately been cancelled.
On Monday, June 19th, an RBINS delegation composed of Roseline Beudels (BIOPOLS, Conservation Biology), Hilde Keunen, Maarten Vanhove and Luc Janssens de Bisthoven (RBINS, BIOPOLS - CEBioS) attended the introduction speeches and participated in the strongly attended networking event (rotating tables, B2B) at Hotel Métropole, Brussels (see picture).
On Tuesday, June 20th, the RBINS delegation was composed of Gerard Cobut (RBINS, DO Public), Henri Robert and René-Marie Lafontaine (RBINS, DO Nature, BIOPOLS, CONSBIOL), Han de Koeijer, Hilde Keunen, Maarten Vanhove and Luc Janssens de Bisthoven (RBINS, DO Nature, BIOPOLS, CEBioS), and attended the session and networking event organised at the Royal Museum for Central Africa (RMCA) in Tervuren. The RBINS team presented RBINS interventions in DR Congo, principles of museology related to nature, principles of sustainable tourism and their links to the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD), Nature-based solutions, and more particularly the institutional relationships, the monitoring work in cooperation with WWF and the work carried out at the Centre de Surveillance de la Biodiversité (CSB) in Kisangani. Other RBINS staff having contributed to the presentations are Hendrik Segers and Marc Peeters (RBINS, BIOPOLS, National Focal Point CBD), Erik Verheyen (RBINS, DO Taxonomy & Phylogeny), Hilde Eggermont (Belgian Biodiversity Platform) and external collaborator Anne Laudisoit.
It was a unique opportunity to meet several provincial environment ministers, ICCN authorities and park directors, as well as tourism companies and other private entrepreneurs from DRC and to contribute to mainstreaming of biodiversity in the tourism sector
