Prize D4D – Katrijn Baetens (CEBioS) and Zacharie Sohou (IRHOB) win second place in the iChoose category

This year, one of our CEBioS team members, Dr. Katrijn Baetens (in collaboration with Zacharie Sohou from IRHOB), participated in “Prize D4D”, an initiative of the Royal Museum of Central Africa with the support of the Belgian Directorate-General for Development Cooperation. We asked her to explain a little further...

“Prize D4D rewards outstanding initiatives that use digitisation and (new) technologies as a lever for development towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

With our project IoT sensor development for Benin, we became second in the iChoose category and we were handed over a certificate by Minister Alexander De Croo on October 4th 2018 in the Royal Museum for Central Africa in Tervuren.

This competition gave us the motivation to develop our concept of a cheap waterproof sensor that provides real time data and share this idea with the world. Because of all the nice comments of people who watched the video, we already could improve and finetune the idea.”
