The teams of participants are in charge of one-year projects to establish biodiversity indicators in their countries, in collaboration with CEBioS and other experts from Belgium and the UK.

Contributions covered fields as diverse as ethnobotany (François Malaisse and André De Kesel, Botanic Garden Meise), GIS (Philippe Lejeune, ULg-GxABT), database management (André Heughebaert, Global Biodiversity Information Facility), biodiversity indicators development (Sarah Ivory, Biodiversity Indicators Partnership), ecosystem services valuation (Nele Witters, Universiteit Hasselt) and project cycle management (Luc Janssens de Bisthoven, CEBioS).

The aim of the workshop was to enhance capacities of the participants in these fields, which were perceived as instrumental to indicator development. Together with the contributing experts, they exchanged ideas on their projects, which will still run for about one year.

A closing workshop will be organized in Benin at the end of the projects.
