Ebola outbreak under surveillance in DR Congo

In April-May 2017, a small Ebola outbreak took place in the region of Likati, Province of Bas-Uele, in the DR Congo.

For this outbreak, and this is exceptional, the primary case, has clearly been identified. A team of researchers is currently executing an ecological survey in the area to determine the Ebola-reservoir.

The team is headed by the Congolese National Institute of Biomedical Research (INRBM).

Teams of the Centre de Surveillance de la Biodiversité (Kisangani, RDC), the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (Brussels, Belgium), the University of Antwerp (Antwerp, Belgium), the Robert Koch Institute (Berlin, Germany), the National Institutes of Health (Montana, USA) and IRD (Montpellier, France) are on the field July-August. Steve Ngoy, Casimir Nebesse and Prescott Musaba, current three CEBios-grantees, as well as Jean-Claude Mukinzi, Nicaise Amundala and Guy Gembu, former CEBioS-grantees, will be taking part as members of the CSB-team.
