A team of researchers from KU Leuven, including CEBioS academic associate Els De Keyzer, recently published a paper on the population structure of the sprat of Lake Tanganyika Stolothrissa tanganicae. This publication was picked up by the Dutch edition of National Geographic (see the illustration below).

The article describes the results of the paper, showing that the Stolothrissa in Lake Tanganyika don’t show genetic population structure, with important consequences for fisheries management. It also briefly introduces the team’s ongoing project of interviewing a wide array of stakeholders about preferred management strategies.
