News 2nd Interdisciplinary Symposium on Sustainable Development

The 2nd Interdisciplinary Symposium on Sustainable Development will take place from 20 to 22 May 2015 at ULB (Bruxelles) and UCL (Louvain-la-Neuve).

The 2nd Interdisciplinary Symposium on Sustainable Development is organised with the support of the Public Service of Wallonia. This symposium is co-chaired by the Professors Jean-Pascal van Ypersele (Université catholique de Louvain) and Marek Hudon (Université libre de Bruxelles). 

The 2015 Symposium will be honoured by the presence of several internationally renowned specialists, such as Rob Hopkins (PhD in Human Geography, initiator of the Transition Movement), Martin Khor (Executive Director of the South Centre, intergovernmental organisation of developing countries), Gunter Pauli (Belgian industrialist working for industrial zero-emission solutions, pioneer in the circular economy, initiator of the concept of blue economy), Rajagopal P. V. (Gandhian activist, Vice Chairman of the Gandhi Peace Foundation, New Delhi, and the president and founding member of Ekta Parishad), Jeffrey Sachs (Professor at Columbia University and special consultant to the General Secretary of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon) and Laurence Tubiana (Director of IDDRI and Ambassador for climate change and special representative for the COP21) have confirmed their participation.

The symposium will permit to attend a round table debate featuring Thomas d’Ansembourg (psychotherapist who highlighted the principle of citizen interiority), Jean-Marc Jancovici (engineering consultant in energy and climate change, co-founder of Carbone 4, author and initial developer of the carbon accounting of the ADEME), Eloi Laurent (senior economist at the OFCE and lecturer at Sciences-Po Paris) and Natacha Zuinen (coordinator of the Department of Sustainable Development for the Walloon Region).

20 May: Inaugural conference at 20h in ULB (Bruxelles) with Rob Hopkins and Gunter Pauli

21-22 May: Two days of Symposium at UCL (Louvain-la-Neuve) with Martin Khor on 21 May and Thomas d'Ansembourg, Jean-Marc Jancovici, Eloi Laurent, Rajagopal P. V., Jeffrey Sachs, Laurence Tubiana and Natacha Zuinen on 22 May, among others

More than 120 high-quality contribution proposals were submitted and about sixty will be presented during the parallel sessions.
