The Lebanese Biodiversity Clearing-House provides a platform for information exchange and dissemination about Lebanon’s biodiversity and the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Lebanon. It is a part of the global Clearing House Mechanism of the CBD.

The Convention on Biological Diversity was adopted by the governments in 1992 at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development also known as Rio Earth Summit. The Convention was inspired by the world community’s growing commitment to sustainable development; it aims at the conservation of biological diversity, the sustainable use of its components, and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the use of genetic resources. By fulfilling its objectives, the Convention seeks to conserve and sustain the goods and services that the ecosystems with its species and genetic variability is providing us to maintain our lives such as food and medicine, clean air and water, fuel, fiber and shelter.
