Legislation and policy
This section of the website provides an overview on laws and policies that are relevant to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, and the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity in Belgium. It highlights dispositions relative to a wide range of complementary themes such as nature conservation, forests, water, hunting, trade of wildlife species, etc.
The successive State reforms have attributed most of the competences on biodiversity to the three Belgian Regions (Flanders, Brussels and Wallonia). This has as implication that former national laws have been adapted into each Region's own legislation.
