Event Stakeholder Consultation on the Final Evaluation of the EU Biodiversity Strategy to 2020

Less than two years remain until the end of 2020 - the deadline to deliver on the biodiversity targets set by the global Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and the EU Biodiversity strategy to 2020. Yet, recent reports indicate that humanity is not on track to halt the loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services (See reports of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES)).

Biodiversity is essential for human wellbeing, the economy, as well as for our society’s capacity to address climate change and to deliver on the Sustainable Development Goals.

The EU and its Member States are taking stock of efforts and achievements in their 6th National Report to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). Debates are also gaining momentum on the post-2020 global biodiversity framework, as part of the process launched at the 14th UN Biodiversity Conference of the Parties to the CBD in November 2018.
