Activities of EVAMAB so far: The joint research projects between the Busitema and KU Leuven Universities in the Mt. Elgon region provided important scientific background information for the EVAMAB project. Building on that, Koen Vanderhaegen carried out fieldwork together with Busitema U. and KU Leuven MSc thesis students in August 2017. Focus group discussions were organized with different local communities to map, analyze and prioritize ecosystem services provided by the local environment. Meetings were held with different stakeholders managing or benefitting from the ecosystem in the Elgon region (UNESCO, ICRAF, NEMA, IUCN, UWA, UCB, NWSC, …). Existing and potential future Payments for Ecosystem Services (PES) schemes were documented. Preliminary results of these activities will be available soon.
