Folder Working paper, Rapid Economic Valuation of Ecosystem Services in Man and Biosphere Reserves in Africa: A Review (Azadi et al.)

Azadi, H., Van Passel, S., Cools, J. Rapid Economic Valuation of Ecosystem Services in Man and Biosphere Reserves in Africa: A Review. Working paper.

Abstract:

Ecosystem services (ES) are the benefits originating from Earth’s natural capital, which sustain the socio-economic criteria and the well-being of humankind. The concept of ecosystem service is being expanded as a tool to unify environmental perception and monetary review. This action leads to repairing the conventional disregard of environment aid in policy arrangements. The Man and the Biosphere (MAB) plan is a linked scientific plan to government that attempts to create a systematic ground to enhance the relationship between individuals and their environments. MAB aims to mix the natural and social sciences with a view of improving human livelihoods and safeguarding natural and handled ecosystems. This will lead to developing creative methods for financial expansion which is socially and culturally suitable and environmentally viable. Accordingly, this paper aims to study the financial structure and major schemes applied to cherish ES in a practical way. Therefore, this paper delivers a practical summary of the methods applied to valuate ES. Based on the result, it is crucial to identify the most essential services created by regional ecosystems to directly contribute to policy making. A range of scientific subjects that emerge in using the approach can have a great effect on the economic valuation.
