Full text of the objective 4f.3 "Protection of forest genetic diversity" from the National Strategy

Flanders:

• development of seed trees and scrubs;
• promotion for planting mixed forest types of local species;

Brussels:

Plantation in Sonian forest : only plants with certifed genetic origin of Sonien forest.

Walloon Region:

§ The number and area of seed stands and seed orchards have been increased, especially for secondary tree species, with a view to increase biodiversity at the genetical level. The "Comptoir des Matériels Forestiers de Reproduction" is in charge of the management of these stands and orchards, and has to collect seeds and provide public and private nurseries with selected seeds.

Future actions:

• Better knowledge of the conservation of forest genetic resources;
• Adoption of practical measures for conservation, for example, by using the "Technical Guidelines for genetic conservation and use" that are being produced by the EUFORGEN.
