Forestry and forest management
The legal basis for the management of the Belgian forests is the Forest Code of 1854. It has been modified and complemented by regional decrees and regulations as the regional governments, nowadays, have full authority and competence with respect to forest management. In Flanders, the Flemish Forest Decree 1990 (last modification in 2014) creates the basis for a more plan-oriented forest policy, while in Wallonia and in the Brussels Capital Regions, numerous regulations complement and modify the Forest Code.
