Belgian Report on the Implementation of the Programme of Work for the Global Taxonomy Initiative (2004)

The Belgian Report on the Implementation of the Programme of Work for the Global Taxonomy Initiative (GTI) has been elaborated as a response to Decision VII/9, point 6 of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity. The report has been elaborated following guidelines provided by the Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity. It has been completed in September 2004.

The format of the report on the GTI is a series of questions designed to facilitate the consideration of the issue of the GTI and its programme of work. In accordance with Decision VII/31, the programme of work has been reviewed in depth by the eighth meeting of the Conference of the Parties in 2006.

	Operational Objective 1. Assess taxonomic needs and capacities at national, regional and global levels for the implementation of the Convention
	Operational objective 2. Provide focus to help build and maintain the systems and infrastructure needed to obtain, collate and curate the biological specimens that are the basis for taxonomic knowledge
	Operational objective 3. Facilitate an improved and effective infrastructure/system for access to taxonomic information, with priority on ensuring that countries of origin gain access to information concerning elements of their biodiversity
