An artistic look at diversity and the evolution of the species: a surprising blend of art and science
The Museum of Natural Sciences is pleased and proud to offer, for the third year running, a platform for young artists. This year, the infinite variety and beauty of wildlife provided the creative spark for students from various applied arts departments at the Haute Ecole Francisco Ferrer.
Drawing inspiration from the treasures in our collections, they have concocted an awe-inspiring, delirious and fantastic journey through the museum's stunning galleries. An experience to revel in.
PROGRAMME
Fashion show among the dinosaurs
A fashion show of skirts with shapes inspired by a hybrid world between humankind and animal kind. A universe in which nature's different kingdoms intermingle and are absorbed to create a universal hybridisation. During the evening, from 7.30 pm onwards, fashion models will parade five times in a very different kind of fashion show.
Dive with the whales to the heart of the creative process
Images projected onto canvases reveal the research process behind a fashion prototype. An interactive exhibition allows the audience to get involved, to participate in the transformation of a model, to experiment, and to play with drawings and graphic variations.
Step into the light
Between the halls Biodivercity ans 250 Years of Natural Sciences, a Dressing Room offers visitors the opportunity to try on XXL scarves and 'haute nature' mittens and hats. Provided with a photography studio and appropriate lighting, the visitor can become a participant, having their photo taken with their own camera to leave a trace of their fleeting transformation.
Welcome to the world of insects
Several of the museum's galleries are occupied by textile designs inspired by the world of insects: unusual creations produced using time-honoured techniques such as knitting, felting and padding. Added to this is an exhibition of suspended cocoons and original installations, and a performance inspired by beehives, 'ruche-mitière', staged throughout the evening. Strange forms and fanciful trappings result from experiments in textiles. An insect gives birth to an original form leading to strange textile prints, ballooning, wet effects, permanent pleats, and shiboris.
Strange creatures
Poetic and diverting sculptures, incongruous combinations, and recovered and recycled materials take over the museum. Monumental and ephemeral structures made from balloons, wire, metal and paper result in an exhibition of disconcerting, morphologically transformed creations: a world created to stimulate the visitor's imagination.
