Introduction
On 29 November, 1999, the “Environment and Development” Commission of the Royal Academy for Overseas Sciences organized an International Symposium on Developing Countries facing Global Warming: Kyoto 1997 and Beyond, focusing on the uncertainties of the causes of Global Warming — anthropogenic and/or natural. (Proceedings published in 2000: 199 pp., 25 figs.) Ten years later, and on the occasion of UNEP’s Environment Day, the Royal Academy for Overseas Sciences, in collaboration with the United Nations, will organize a follow-up International Symposium Developing Countries facing Global Warming: a Post-Kyoto Assessment, focusing on the consequences of Global Warming and the Kyoto Protocol for Developing Countries and aiming at giving an updated state of the art.
