PRE-EVENT – Première of ‘Living with a warming ocean’ - 14 September 2011 (19:20)

The CLAMER documentary film, ‘Living with a warming ocean’ will be premiered at the conference pre-event. Filmed in seven European countries, the 57’ documentary focuses on public attitudes towards science communication regarding climate change in Europe, its impact on our marine waters and its wider socio-economic consequences.

CONFERENCE*- 15 September 2011 (09:00-17:00)

This one day conference will present key findings of the CLAMER project, including:

  • Results of the pan-European public poll, conducted to investigate public views and understanding about climate change and the marine environment
  • Main messages from a state-of-the-art overview of EU research results on marine climate change, which summarizes all existing scientific outputs

Leading experts in climate change science and related mitigation and adaptation strategies will be given the floor, among them Prof. Dr. Rajendra Kumar Pachauri, Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The conference will be chaired by Quentin Cooper, presenter of ‘The Material World’ on BBC Radio 4, the UK's most-listened-to science programme.

During the afternoon session it will be possible to join discussions on the following themes:

  •  Science & Public Awareness: How Can the Outputs of Marine Climate Change Research be Better Communicated & Valorised to the Public? (Group 2)
  •  Organisation of the European Marine Climate Research Community and Agendas in the Future (Group 3)
