As part of the debate on a future EU maritime policy and the forthcoming adoption of the European Commissions Blue Paper, the Committee of the Regions will hold the Blue Planet Forum on 27th and 28th November 2007 in Brussels. The event is organised with the Directorate General for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs in close collaboration with the World Ocean Network. The forum is designed to raise general awareness, generate a desire for political and public action and to apply the principle of sustainable development to the seas and the oceans.

To this end, the World Ocean Network strongly encourages its European members and partners to share their expertise and refine public communication and involvement strategies at workshops How to inform, educate and associate European citizens with the future maritime policy. The workshops will develop a joint action plan for the World Ocean Network European chapter and partners to better communicate on European maritime issues and a sustainable policy for our ocean planet, and to strengthen maritime identity in the EU.

The Blue Planet Forum is also an opportunity for you to bring along the most motivated and resourceful young Europeans (16 to 20 years old) selected from regional and national forums and from other activities conducted in your venue to participate in the first European Youth Oceans Forum.

The objective of the European Youth Oceans Forum is to involve young people all over Europe in the ocean governance and stewardship as future decision makers and consumers of marine resources. Young people are expected to produce their recommendations for issues in the Blue Paper and a future maritime policy for the EU and to construct a common agenda of action of a comprehensive long term mechanism for youth cooperation in the EU decision making process regarding maritime affairs.

Travel and accommodation expenses of the experts and youth can be covered on application before 7th October 2007.
