Bees play a vital role for our environment in sustaining biodiversity and for our agricultural system. The interaction between agriculture and bees is a delicate symbiosis, and the majority of crops grown in the European Union depend on insect pollination. Beyond the essential value of pollination to maintaining biodiversity, the global annual monetary value of pollination has been estimated at hundreds of billions of Euros.

This meeting aims to examine the issue closely and to stimulate debate on how to support bee health and the establishment of robust bee colonies. Stakeholder and renowned scientists specialised on bees are part of the agenda. The findings of the most recent report containing the latest information available on the various factors influencing bee health will be presented by OPERA Research Centre. This meeting is organised in parallel to a series of events in EU Member States aimed at discussing the issues influencing bee health with a range of stakeholders.

During the meeting, key stakeholders will address the issue of bee health, including Members of the European Parliament, academics, and experts, representatives from the European Commission, national policy-makers, and representatives from farmer and beekeeper organisations.

The agenda will be available shortly.
