30 years of banana diversity hosted in Belgium A treasure chest to feed the world
Did you know that Belgium has the largest collection of banana diversity in the world? You can find it at the International Musa Germplasm Transit Centre (ITC) hosted at the Catholic University of Leuven (KU Leuven).

Banana is one of the world’s favourite fruits and an important source of food, nutrition and income for millions of people. For 30 years, research carried out at the ITC has been helping farmers and scientists all over the world to make banana farming more productive, resilient and sustainable.
To celebrate the ITC’s 30 years of service to secure, understand and use banana genetic diversity for present and future generations, Bioversity International and KU Leuven are organizing a celebration on 23 January 2017, at 13:30 at the Arenbergkasteel, Kasteelpark Arenberg 1, 3001 Leuven.
The event will be attended by Belgian and international donors and policymakers, and will showcase past and present successes and share a vision for the future.
The event will end with a tour of the facility and a reception.
