  • Why are Man and Biosphere reserves (MABs) important?

    In May 2019, the EVAMAB Closing Workshop took place in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia. We took this opportunity to interview some of the participants, and we asked them why they think the Man and Biosphere programme and its reserves are important.

    UNESCO's MAB programme is an Intergovernmental Scientific Programme that aims to establish a scientific basis for the improvement of relationships between people and their environments.

  • Stakeholders workshop around Manyara Biosphere Reserve, Tanzania

    The second workshop of the project North South South Project (VLIR-UOS) “Balancing water for biodiversity and socio-economic use in a changing climate: towards a Decision Support System for sustainable land and water use” took place in the lake Manyara region, Tanzania, in December 2016. It gathered representatives from NGOs, park authorities, pastoralists, farmers, water authorities etc. The video shows some testimonies of the participants about the importance of Lake Manyara.

  • What is the EVAMAB project?

  • The EVAMAB Closing Workshop in Ethiopia: a summary

    In May 2019, the EVAMAB Closing Workshop took place in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia. About 35 scientists and African Biosphere Reserves managers gathered, between May 13th and 17th, to present the results of the EVAMAB project (coordinated by CEBioS) and discuss ecosystem services in African Biosphere Reserves.

    Participants came from Africa (Benin, Ethiopia, Ghana, Madagascar, Tanzania, Uganda), Europe (Belgium, France), Indonesia and Canada.

  • EVAMAB at the AfriMAB meeting, Nigeria (11-15 September 2017)

    Ir. Koen Vanderhaegen represented EVAMAB at the 5th General Assembly of AfriMAB, the African Network on Man and the Biosphere. The assembly was held at the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Ibadan, Nigeria, from 11 to 15 September 2017. This meeting gathered MAB National Committees, biosphere reserves managers and experts from the Region. The theme was "Improving Governance of MAB Programme and of biosphere reserves in Sub-Saharan African countries".
