News The first Consultation workshop on Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) law

In the framework of the Global Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) project, The Higher Council for Environment and Natural Resources (HCENR), Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Physical Development, conducted the first consultation technical workshop of a series of national consultation workshops on National ABS law. On Sunday, August 6th, 2017.

 The workshop was conducted for the research centers and institutes such as National center for Researches, Agricultural research Corporation, Research Center for animal Resources, Forests Research Center, Wildlife Research Center…etc .

The workshop was organized to Identify ABS related gaps, shortcomings and opportunities in the existing national legal framework in Sudan. 

The General Secretary of HCENR addressed the opening session of the consultation workshop, reflecting the importance of ABS national law in guiding  access to genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge and ensuring the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from their utilization.

The workshop was attended by Researchers from different research institutes and centers mentioned above. The workshop was very useful in generating feedbacks, on gaps and opportunities in the national laws pertaining biodiversity, from the participants who really supported the development of ABS national law to ensure the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the utilization of genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge.
