Event Positive Visions for Biodiversity

Positive Visions for Biodiversity is a radical opportunity to envision this future for People and Nature that we want and need. During the first two days, over 250 participants will engage in a live brainstorm to create a vision that transforms our relationship with biodiversity— a vision which is ambitious, aspirational, and above all, achievable. From academics to journalists, the private sector to philosophers, this vision will be the product of an influential, diverse and innovative group of people. You could be a part of this group.

How can we shift the focus from one of dramatic losses and catastrophic scenarios to a celebration of the extraordinary natural wealth that still surrounds us today? How can we use research to inspire public confidence in our power to create a truly sustainable world? How can we bridge the gap between research and policy, and ensure sound decision-making that supports this sustainable vision both in principle and in practice? What knowledge, science and technology will we need to get us there?

The summit’s vision will trace a credible pathway through the next critical years of biodiversity work—and establish achievable targets that inspire us to get there. It will be used as a compelling focal point for about 100 participants and invited experts over the following 2 days to identify both the research priorities and the long-term science policies needed to reach the vision. Going beyond the conventions of PowerPoints and panels, the summit will deliver an interactive, creative and positive thrust to conservation and research strategies over the next decade. You will never have attended an event quite like this before.

As the International Year of Biodiversity comes to a close, we face not only a critical responsibility, but also an historic opportunity to shape an ambitious future for biodiversity science and research and ultimately, our planet. Will you be there for the journey?
