The Université Libre de Bruxelles offers a full time lectureship in tropical agroecology at the Interfaculty School of Bioengineering (EIB).
They are looking for an expert in agroecology with proven experience in development cooperation. Examples of areas of expertise are plant or animal production, agroforestry, agropastoralism, plant breeding and propagation, agricultural socio-economics and policies. The successful applicant will have a strong record of involvement with agroecological research projects in the tropics, and will possess excellent research and
communication skills as demonstrated by high-quality scientific papers in peer-reviewed international journals. At ULB, research and teaching will focus on the study and optimisation of tropical agroecosystems with particular emphasis on the integration of ecological and socio-economic dimensions at different time scales and spatial levels.
Experience of the institutional aspects of development cooperation will be an asset.
Active involvements with research centres or networks in developing countries (universities, NGOs or farmers' organisations) will be also appreciated. The successful applicant will be required to develop and teach several courses on tropical agroecology and undertake interdisciplinary research activities on this topic. In the long run, (s)he will have to speak French. In a shorter term, as long as teaching involves only Master students, (s)he could teach in English. (S)he will also have to take part in institutional management, at the department level or beyond.

The legal requirement is for a PhD in (agricultural) sciences and at least one year of post-doctoral experience.
TIMING. The deadline for applications is 27/2/2012. The outcome of the selection procedure will be known in June. The successful applicant will take up lectureship from 01/10/2012 onward.
