My attention curiously was drawn to the caption ‘Thinking Beyond the Canopy’ which was the label given by the Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) to its 2010 table calendar. The front cover of the calendar has the picture of a tropical tree species reputed not only to contribute to forest cover in the Danau Sentarum National Park of Borneo, Indonesia, but is host to an endemic orchid (Bulbophyllum beccarii).
