HTML Document Socio economic dimension of the main fruit species cultivated in the plateau of Allada in southern Benin

The contribution of cultivated fruit species for financial and food purposes of households was estimated across a participative diagnosis with 120 farmers distributed in Allada, Toffo, Tori-Bossito and Zê, the four districts of Allada’s Plateau in southern Benin. Results have shown that the self consumption of fruits was evaluated at 1,331,775 FCFA for the sample that is to say 390,915,952 FCFA per year for the whole Allada’s Plateau. The economical potential of the fruit production was estimated at 49,998,000 FCFA per year for the whole Plateau of Allada. The annual average income for each farmer was about 1,408,345 FCFA. The existence of such economical potentiality of cultivated fruit species on the Plateau of Allada underlines the importance to continue the investigations in other localities of Benin in order to focus the attention of Researchers and Decision Makers for considering the horticulture with priority in rural and agriculture surveys.
